I just wanted to suggest a variation that is very delicious and gets good comments ,
instead of cucumber raita , a very nice variation to use is,
daikon radish. It is a tad spicey, or tangy, not sure the right word,
but, just grate the white daikon radish , (looks like a very large white carrot)
    add sour cream or yogurt,
and few spices to your liking
    ,a little lime juice,
    a bit of olive oil,
    fresh cilantro,
    then top with browned, ground

  2. A beautiful dish. Thank you Manjula.

I used organic soy yoghurt to make it vegan and it is delicious. I love the way raita is a cool foil to my hot curries. Thank you also for the other wonderful recipes you’ve provided for us. You are a treasure and it’s a treat to watch you cook

    Love from New Zealand

  3. Thanks for recipe it is wonderful. My mom at India used to make papaya na raigota and mango raigota. It is guju recipes and I can’t find how to make it. Can you please teach us?

  4. This is a wonderful refreshing dish! And find the Yogurt to help in digestive problems.
The soy if it is not organic may be GMO and it forms a pesticide in the Gut,so I stopped the 100% vegan,by adding Yogurt.
I have trouble with milk but not Yogurt!

  6. This raita was an accompaniment to my tofu masala and saffron rice tonight. To make it vegan I used vegan sour cream thinned with water and a little lemon juice instead of cow’s milk yogurt. It is very refreshing and is a nice counterpoint to the heat in the tofu masala.

  9. hi, Manjula ji, your receipe are great….. I am Using 2% milk and I purchase yogurt from
walmart. I try to make yogrt but i failed everytime. Could u post how to make yoghurt.
    Thank You,

    1. You have to make sure the yogurt has active cultures. Boil the milk, to get rid of bacteria, then add the yogurt. Then you have to make sure that it stays at a high temperature. Look up how to make yogurt in a slow cooker. I’ve heard that’s easier.
