  2. Hello,

    Good morning,

I tried this cookie recipe last night. followed instruction step by step and let them out to cool over night, but they were still soft.

Please advise what i can do to make sure they turn out crispy?

  3. I was looking for whole wheat-eggless cookie recipe as my toddler suddenly developed a stubborn want for it! Came across this one and I immediately tried it looking at the less prep time and easy-to-find ingredients.
The cookies came out AWESOME! I’m not a cookie lover but I ended up loving these so much that I ate 3 while they were still warm 😀
And making a new batch again today for family and friends.
    I made below variations:
Replaced almonds and cardamom with Choco chips

    Replaced butter with oil

Reduced sugar qty to 1/3rd cup

Thank you so much Ms.Manjula 🙂

  4. Aunty,, thank u sooooooo much for the recipe.. I tried this one today.. I had no butter, so used oil. Also reduced sugar like 1/3 cup of sugar for 1 cup flour.. The flavor I got while baking made me to eat 3 biscuits at the same time.. Really a very nice recipe.. Gonna try other biscuits from your site 🙂

  5. I made the cookies, they came out very well. But i felt the sugar content is too high..next time i’ll add 1/4th cup sugar in 1 cup WW flour.
I made slight change. Replaced 2tbsp whole wheat flour with 2 tbsp semolina and kept the dough in fridge for 1/2 hour. The cookies came out to be very crispy. Thankyou Manjula ji for the recipe..:)

  6. Namaste Manjula Aunty,

I do not have oven or OTG… Can I make this cooker… Is there any way… This reciepe is healthy and i can give it to my daughter in her tiffin. Also can we replace sugar with jaggery? If yes, the quantity?

    Thank you

    Vijaya

  7. Hello mam..2 basic queries..1.preheat oven to 360 means we set temp n let the temp teach 360 n this wd be roughly 20 mins duration or when the light turns off..sometimes it doesn’t till we switch off..

2.keep the baking tray or grill on the middle shelf..n also while preheating the lower grill is on not upper n lower..

  8. Ma’am can you plz tell me if the temperature is for microwave cooking or for baking mode..and can I bake them in my baking tray without using a baking sheet…

  9. The cookies came out surprisingly well…..but with a slight modification in the time and temperature……lesser will do wonders…… as a first time baker i was really excited to c those delicious cookies… thank u madam….

  10. Hi mam, I would like to know at what temperature to bake in an OTG? I have tried your Rasagolla and it was a success!! My husband loved it.. 🙂
I don’t have a microwave oven.. It’s an OTG only..

  11. Mam ur whole wheat almond eggless cookies recipe was very nice. Can you please suggest whether we can bake these cookies in cake oven (not electrical) or cooker instead of oven? If yes, please give me the instructions how to follow in baking the cookies in cake oven/cooker.

  12. hi manjula aunty,

i tried these cookies today and they came out fantastic!!! thanks so much for an easy delicious recipe without eggs or baking powder/soda. i do not have a cookie sheet so i lined my cake pan with some aluminum foil and baked them. and they came out perfect, although i had to bake in three batches. but the good thing is that the house was filled with the aroma of butter and elaichi for long 🙂 an excellent option for snacks with tea, especially on a rainy day 🙂

  13. Hi Manjula Aunty,
These cookies are absolutely mind blowing and vegetarian all the same!
I could not believe how easy they are to make and how yummy they turned out.
Thanks a ton! I made a jar full at home and they disappeared in no time. They have a slight nan khatai feel to them which makes them taste Indian and super delish!!

  14. I was craving something sweet tonight but didn’t really have much in the pantry (no white flour, brown sugar, etc.) and no eggs. I scoured the internet for a cookie recipe that could work for what I did have on hand and I finally found this one. It seemed too good to be true so I wasn’t expecting much, so I was really surprised when the first batch came out… they were delicious, and even more wonderful with a mug of tea! This simple recipe is one for the books! Thanks a bunch, these cookies made my night.

  15. Hi Manjula aunty,

I’ve always loved all ur recipes.
Recently I wanted to bake cookies, and I tried out this recipe.. some how my cookies tend to burn on the bottom.. although I follow the timing and measurements carefully!

Please tell me the brand name of the baking sheet you used and where you got it from?.. so tht I will try baking with that one..
    thank you,

  16. Hello,
How are u? I love your recipes.. I had already tried many of your awesome recipes and big thanks for that.. today I made wheat almond cookies but my cookies didn’t turn as good as yours.. they didn’t expand.. I don’t know why.. I did exactly same as you said. Any pointers on what may be missing or cautions to be taken are highly appreciated.

    Thanks a ton

  17. I love your recipes Aunty. I just made these cookies…. and I amazed myself how good they came out to be. So simple but great. So, next time I have craving for cookies/biscuits and I don’t have any at home….I’ll simply make some by mysefl !!! 😀

  18. Hi,
    Great recipe.

Just wanted to know how to store these cookies? At room temperature or in the refrigerator? Also, how long do they last i.e. without getting spoiled?

    Thanks
    Ira

  19. Hello Manjula aunty/ Jaya,
I am planning to make these cookies today, could you please tell me if I can use rolled oats instead of almonds with cinnamon instead of cardamom? Also, can I use ghee instead of butter?
    Please reply soon!
    Thanks,
    NSJ

  20. Hello Manjula Aunty,

I have tried the cookies today, they have been AWESOME!!! my son (3yrs old) helped me in mixing the ingredients and they were ready in no time… It is a very easy recipe. I liked it so much for one more reason, as i am a Jain and don’t take egg, this is awesome, especially for the Daslakshan Parv and Bhado’s month!!!

    Rashi

  21. Hello aunty,
i tried these cookies today, the taste n texture came out great, however the cookies didn’t increase their size 🙁 why so & what do u think went wrong?

  22. Hi Sebastine,

One cup is equal to eight ounces.

One ounce is equal to 28.35 grams …..so 8 ounces ( 1 cup ) is equal to 226.80 grams.

The best website if you are not familiar with convertins is
    http://www.covert-me.com

It converts everything you could ever imagine… maybe Manjula can use it when everyone asks for conversions in the future.. I refer to it regularly.

    I hope that this helps!

  23. hi,
for the recipe of wheat flour biscuit eggless ones, can the be made in pan or by any other method without using oven or OTG.my oven is not working and i just have to try it soon
    deepti

  24. Jaya,

You always have good advice too – although my comment now doesn’t necessarily have to do with the burning issues she is describing another important thing to think of when baking cookies is to not overbake them – although, if you do overbake them, then yes, they will burn. It’s more for people who might not be so familiar with baking.

But also, it’s important not to overbake cookies because once you take them out of a hot oven, the pan is still hot and they will continue to bake slightly once they are taken out. it’s important to let them sit on the sheet for a short time and then put them on a rack to finish cooling – either that or follow the recipe directions for once they are out of the oven. Sometimes what happens is people will take cookies out of the oven, see that it isn’t “set” and thinking that they aren’t done, put them back in the oven until they are overcooked. It’s a very common mistake when new to baking.

Also, another good tip when baking cookies is to make sure and use a cool cookie sheet. Don’t take cookies out of the oven, remove them from the pan and immediately put new dough on the still warm sheet. Let the pan cool down and then put the dough on. This helps the cookie not to expand and “melt” and winds up with a denser cookie as opposed to a very thin cookie.

    1. Supriya, probably the problem is your baking sheet is too thin. For cookies to bake properly, you need a good quality, heavy weight baking sheet. The fact that they were burning on the bottom before the rest of the cookie, sounds like the baking sheet (aka cookie sheet) is the problem.

Another possible cause is your oven is too hot. Although you set the heat at 350 degrees, ovens can vary 25 to 50 degrees different from each other.

If the cookie sheet isn’t the problem, try baking them at 325 instead and see if that fixes the problem.

      Good luck.

  25. I made this .. They were done within two days. Really delicious. I used Almond meal from Tarder Joe’s. Didnt need milk at all when the butter is at room temperature. Thank You Aunty for your wonderful recipes.

  26. hi!

i am new to cooking. i tried the cloves version.
i use an OTG. should there be any change to the recipe for it?
i find that mine tasted good, but got burnt from below and slightly uncooked from top. what am i doing wrong?

  28. I made these cookies today. They tasted pretty good. I hardly needed any milk. I also tried a batch with half almond meal and half cup whole wheat flour. That came out good too:)

  29. Jaijinendra aunty,

I just baked these cookies & my home is filled with the sweet aroma but in just 15 min ,my cookies turned little bit black from the bottom.
Do we have to decrease the temperature after putting cookies in the oven.

Thanks for all the wonderful recipes!
    🙂

  30. I think the cookies are not expanding b’coz it doesn’t have baking soda in it, I added a pinch of baking soda & instead of almonds I used chocolate chips, the cookies were wonderful crunchy & tasty! Thanks to Manjula aunty!

    1. i tried these cookies myself and they did expand…as it is also mention in one of the previous reply i would like to mention again…it is better to keep the butter out of the fridge well in advance so it becomes soft rather than melting it 🙂

  31. Hello aunty,
cookies were really good in taste but didn’t rise/expand at all…i wonder which flour you use? I exactly followed your ingredients. Thankyou, Api

  32. Hi manjula. I have whole wheat at home. I was wondering if i put them in the blender and try to make it in a powder would that work and be suitable for the cookie making?
Hope to hear from you soon.

    1. Hasiena,
I do a lot of baking and I do not think that trying to grind “whole wheat” at home using a kitchen blender will make a flour even close to suitable enough for making cookies with. A blender would not have the grinding capacity for taking a whole grain and grinding it fine enough into “flour” I think it would wind up being a waste of time, energy and resources to even try. I am not trying to be critical but I would hate to see you go through a lot of work and effort to have it not come out ok.

    2. Take the wheat to a bakery where they are more likely to have the industrial quality grinders.

If you have wheat at home without a grinder, then what do you do with the wheat? Just curious.

  33. Hi Aunty………
I tried this recipe….and the cookies came out very very delicious………
All my family enjoyed the cookies……….especially my son Keshav.
He is telling a special thanks to you

  34. hi manjula,

i tried this cookie this evening n during the process of baking i was very excitedly waiting for my cookies to bake but then it didnt cook in 18 minutes. so i kept still 2 minutes ,but it didnt stil cook ….then i thought may be it might become crispy when i let it cool outside…..but then wen it cooled it was very soft from inside so i thought of keeping back again …..again i kept for 10 minutes but still it did not turn golden brown instead it was whitish a sort of creamish……i used cooker range with medium heat in the middle rack( i dont have temperarture reading in my cooking range instead i have timer)……can u say wer i went wrong plz manjula i want to try this again and see bcoz i likeeeeee cookies…..tnk u for ur time

    1. Archana, since you don’t have a temperature reading in your oven baking anything will be a problem. Go to a store that sells cooking supplies and buy an oven thermometer! You place on the same rack that you will be baking on and you can monitor the temperature of your oven. If you have a glass window in your oven it’s even easier because you can see the temperature without opening the door.

Once the temperature is where you want it, avoid opening the oven door as this will release heat and drop the temperature briefly.

From what you have described, the oven was not hot enough.

  35. Hi Aunty,

I tried out this recipe the taste of the cookies were great, but it did not expand as it did for you. Should I use baking powder for this? Please give us some more baking recipes like salted crackers as it would not need oil and would be good for the health too.

    Thanks.

  36. Cardamom is used a lot in Indian cooking, particularly desserts. Sure, you can substitute it but the flavor will be different.
It should be available in most stores

  37. hello mam,

can u tell me can we bake this cookies in basic microwave oven .n what it take how many minutes it take in microwave oven please tel me mam

  38. Hello….would you please tell me the calorie content of the almond eggless cookies….also what is cordamom seed and where would I buy it…in local grocery stores??? Can it be substituted with anything else?? Thank you, Paula

  39. hi , i tried this recipe , instead of cardamom powder , i used vanilla essence and almond flavouring …needless to say the cookies were delicious and crispy !!

  40. hello Manjula aunty,

I love your recipes. What is the shelf life of these cookies? Can u please briefly list other recipes with high shelf life. I need to send some snacks with high shelf life to my younger brother. Thanks in advance.

    -Geeta

    1. Hello Geeta,
You can keep all these listed recipes and more can be stored more then month if they are stored in air tight container, Desan Para, Gujhia shakker para, Mathri, whole wheat cookies, almond burfi cashew burfi, masala peanuts and more

      1. Manjula aunty,
I had exact same question about the shelf-life of these cookies.
Does the air tight container needs to be stored in fridge or at room temperature like shakkar pares?

  41. Dear Aunty, This recipe turned out awesome. You are just great, Thanks for sharing this wonderful recipe with us. I just cant beleive I made biscuits @ home that too so simple yet delicious. My hubby and me love biscuits and spent dollars all these days. Hence forth this is going to be a staple food in my kitchen. Will try Naan Khatai as well. Hope you dont mind when I say this “Love you so much Aunty”.

  42. Thank you aunty ji very much for such a delicious recipe…i made the whole wheat almond cookies yday and the cookies came out very tasty. and its very easy recipe i have come across the internet. I am big fan of all your recipes. Thank you so much! Have a great time.

  43. Hello Manjula aunty,

Thank you very very much for this recipe. I love atta biscuits. This is perfect. Its a big big hit in my family. Everyone seems to love it so much that I end up making jars full each week for distribution ONLY.. I am very happy that my family is loving and send me text messages asking if I could bake some. I have made these biscuits atleast 12 times in the last one month. However, there is a request from my family members asking me to make the biscuits a bit softer ( if possible).. Is there a way aunty?? Its not that they are complaining about the crunchy cookies but they would love soft cookies if possible. Any help??

    🙂

  44. I tried this receipe with slight variations:
Added 4 cloves(crushed). The taste was great and the aroma of clove acted as an air freshner.
Used a combination of half butter and half oil (sunflower) in the dough.Cookies were more crisp after cooling.
    Thanks
    Tanvi

  45. hi manjula aunty ‘m avid viewer of ur recipe……….they r really good …I tried this recipe in microwave oven with convection mode @250 degrees(max)..it took 25 mins…and the cookies didn’t spread as ur ‘s were……could u plz tell me the reason where I went wrong…………

      1. Vilekha, recheck the recipe for the temperature. You cooked them at over 100 degrees LESS than what you should have. That’s why after 25 minutes, nothing happened. Your oven was too cool.

Make sure too that you are using the Fahrenheit measurement. It’s 360 degrees F, not C.

  46. i want to know the cup measurment in terms of grams

so 1Cup 0f ur’s will b equal to ..?, since when i tried onces but dough was become very soft and i was not able to make cookies.

    So plz help.

  47. hi aunty:
am gonna check out ur recipe as I recently bought my OTG .. this is gonna be my first OTG recipe !… if i dont have cookie sheets, can i use Aluminium foil on my baking tray and grease it???

  49. Hello aunty,

I tried this recipe but somehow when I made the dough I was not able to knead it properly. I think there was a lot of butter.
    Please advice.

  50. hello aunty
i tried ur cookies with the right measurements, but my cookies burnt from bottom and wasnt even crispy…it dint even spread nicely i donno wat the problem cud be,well it cud have burned bcoz of all ovens r different but otherwise..i donno wat went wrong plz.help.

    1. Hey amy,Low down your oven to 320F as Jaya said.I made nankhatai once with manjula’s recepie but they came out exactly how ur describing they were ery hard to chew though. So one of my friend suggested to replace butter with ghee. Here also I think if u’ll use ghee of same amount instead of butter ur dish will be awesome.

      1. hie Maddy..
thx a lot for your reply.
I think i was making the cookies for the first time…and dint understand the colour darkness of the cookie, may be waiting for the cookie to get darker i let it cook for a lill longer…i even got the burnt smell quiker but i ignored and it got burnt from bottom, but when i removed n cooled it down it was just so wonderful…only keepin it for longer and waiting for the color to change spoilt my cookie…i threw all of them..and i m making with butter again 2day…will reply u once again its cooked perfectly…..:)
        love
        Amy

  51. Hi Manjula aunty,

Yesterday i tried this cookie and it came out really good. My hubby liked it very much. I have tried many of your recipes which have all turned out very well. thanks for all your recipes aunty great cooking and really i have become a great fan of your dishes manjula aunty.

    Thank u so much .

  52. Hello Aunty, Tried this recipe yesterday and it was yum. And Thanks to jaya for baking tips, it was helpful in determining the right time to remove from oven.

  53. Sonal, cookies that are burnt on the edges but uncooked in the center could be from too high of oven heat (each oven registers temp a little differently) and/or the cookie sheet is too thin and therefore gets too hot.

Try reducing your oven temp to 325 degrees (IMO 360 is too high). Also check your cookie sheet. It should have a nice heaviness too it. Hope this helps. 🙂

  54. Hello Manjula Aunty,
I tried the recipe with 1/3 cup splenda (instead of sugar). The cookies turned out pretty good. It tasted really good but was a little sweet so maybe next time I will try a little less splenda. However, the cookies were a little uncooked in the center but almost burnt on the sides and bottom; do you have any suggestions for that? The taste was awesome especially with a light taste of the cardamom seeds. This is truly a great website. I appreciate what you do for us younger Indian generations away from India. Thanks so much.

  55. Dear aunty,
Have tried out several of you recipes and needless to say they have turned out great ! Thanks to you…I would like to know what is gud substitute for butter since my husband loves to munch on these and i have to watch his cholestrol…yes i’m writing from India

  56. Hi Aunty ji, just want to tell you that you are awesome, love all of your recepies, can you please give us the recepie for bdana, (similar to boondi but bigger)

    thanks

  57. Hello Manjula aunty,
    How are you doing?
I have been visiting your website lately and wanted to try the Whole Wheat Almond Eggless Cookies. I love your website and your recipes.
I want to substitute sugar with splenda or sweet & low, what should I do? Please advise.

    Thanks,

    1. Hi Sonal,
I have never tried with splenda, try it and let us know, usually I find splenda little more sweet then sugar, instead using 1/2 cup sugar try with 1/3 cup splenda and use little more cardamom because that hides the smell and after taste effect. Good luck!

  58. Hi aunty,

I tried the cookies they turn out yum… just one question…. mine didn’t come out chewy as chocolate chip cookies, instead they are crispy(not hard). though I like the textute, I just want to confirm how they shld be chewy or crispy… please let me know….

    Thanks….

  59. hello Manjula Aunty,

today i tried your cookies recipe but they came out very hard. i don’t know what went wrong. maybe i kept it a little longer like 4 to 5 minutes more than your timming because i want to make it alittle brownish in colour. i used swad whole wheat flour. please tell me what was wrong in my method.

    1. Neena, you overcooked the cookies. Remove them from the oven just when the edges start to darken slightly. They will firm up as they cool once removed from the oven. If they have browned on top, they’re already overbaked and will be hard.

      1. hello Jaya,

thanks a lot for your reply. next time when i’ll try i’ll take out the cookies little earlier. i was already thinking that maybe Manjula Aunty gets the time or not but you are going to definitely reply my problem because you always reply others also. great job Jaya!!!!
        thank again!
a little personal question, are you Manjula aunty’s daughter?

        1. LOL – no, we are not related and actually we have never met. I have been cooking and baking for a long time and it’s hard to resist replying to questions/problems. Hope the next batch of cookies turns out well! 🙂

  60. Hello Manjula Aunty,

  62. Dear Manjula Aunty,

I tried your cookies today. It came out soooooo good.Very simple recipe without using many ingredients and mixer too.I had a feeling of eating a milk sweet infact and the touch of cardamom made this cookies more special.Thank you very much aunty.

  66. hi aunty

    thanks for wonderful recipe…..

if i want to make oatmeal cookie…what kind of oats required for cookie and where can i get it?plz reply me

    thanks

  67. Auntyji,
I normally get whole wheat for rotis from the local health store. This has a higher fiber content compared to the Indian atta. Will this work? They also have something called whole wheat pastry flour -do you think this would be better?

  68. Namaste Manjulaji – Thank you for another wonderful how-to video. Your videos give me great confidence – beginning with the first one I tried on my own, for chapattis. I cannot wait to make these cookies.

Except for the shape of them, they remind me very much of a special traditional Greek and Turkish tea biscuit that my grandmother used to make for us when we were children. She shaped them not into a ball, but into a circular, bagel-like shape. She sometimes made them with almonds, adding orange juice and star anise. In the Sephardic (Greek Jewish) tradition, they are known as biscotios, but my grandmother used a different word altogether, pronounced ‘KLOOTH ya,’ but unfortunatley, I’ve no idea how to spell it, and what the exact recipe is.

Forgive me…I’m rabbitting on and on. I just wanted to say bahut shukriya, once again, for another brilliant recipe and video.

  69. Hello Aunty,
I am from Martinique and I live in France, and I look at all your recipes in the last 2 years. Your site is wonderful.
The recipes I have tried, have fun with my family several Occasions especially Nan Katai!
I am soon to try the cookies … because today is my birthday, so it’s the only thing my friend lets me do in the kitchen!

Thank you and see you soon

  70. namastey aunty,

Thax for the wonderful recipe…definitely i m going to try it today..
i think my kids will love it..wow..looks so yummy..
i have all the ingredients so cant wait..and will tell u later how it comes up..

  71. Hello aunty,

I am staying in UK and hence the butter doesnt become soft even if i keep it outside. Can i melt the butter and then add it to the wheat flour ? Or can you please suggest me some other way to do it ?

    1. Priya, talk to people who work in the bakery of some local stores and ask for their advice. Melting the butter will make a mess. There must be a brand of butter that will soften at room temperature after a few hours because they do baking in UK and would need that kind of butter. Good luck.

  72. hi aunty,

i just saw your cookie recipe.thankyou so much for such an easy recipe. i will definitely going to try this.and will tell how it comes up!
    thanks again.

  73. i have been waiting for it so long now..its months now that i can see on ur website upcoming malpua receipe..Auntyji when is your malpua receipe comming!!
