Great News!

I am now officially a grandma for the third time and I’m absolutely in love with my precious granddaughter! I have been with her since her birth and am loving taking care of her. These past few weeks have been really busy for me. I have to say my granddaughter is cute as a button and it will be fun to watch her grow.

With a new baby, it is important for new moms to eat well and more importantly eat the right foods. These days I’ve really been working to convince my daughter-in-law and son just how important diet is for new moms. It’s been a struggle trying to get my daughter-in-law to not eat foods she loves such as breads, pastas, and snack foods. Although, I have to say my son is harder to convince than she is as he just brought back her favorite ice cream and snack food from the grocery store!

    1. You should also address nutrition questions with your son’s pediatrician. Besan ladoos and kachoris are both high fat foods and should be given to a young child VERY sparingly and in small amounts.

  2. Hello Aunty,
Congratulations!! I just love all your recipes. And now that you have a small baby in your home I am hoping you would share your tips for raising a baby and also some baby food recipes. I have a one year old boy and am always searching for healthy recipes to feed him.

  3. Wow. What a nice grandmother you are. For some they will never take charge of taking care of the baby. They will only do that for a while. But you are different, you want to see the baby grow and much more take care from birth to adulthood. Congrats.

  4. Manjula Aunty,
Congratulations ! on the new addition to ur family. Thanks a lot for sharing your treasure of recipes and
experience. It is so helpful to see u making dishes then just reading them.
One more thing I have to share…. ur hands specially ur thumb is exactly like my mothers…I know its weird
me mentioning that here but I had to.

    Thanks and Regards
    Mina

  5. Dear Manjula Aunty,

Congratulations!! I’m so happy for you and your family. Also wanted to say thanks for all your wonderful recipes. I am a newly wed and your website makes cooking so easy. I have, infact, start to love cooking, thanks to you! I tried making gajar ka halwa today and it’s fabulous (if i may say so myself)

Congratulations once again and keep up the great work!

  6. Hi Manjula Aunty,

Firstly, huge congratulations on the birth of your grand-daughter. I’m sure she will be
a huge light in your life (dadi-mama’s are the best).

Manjula, I wanted to tell you how much your website and the links to your video’s have
helped me, in fact, you have taught me so much. I could NOT cook any Indian food before
I turned to you. I married my husband 3yrs ago, he is Hindu (from Jammu) and I am a white
English girl. I had to learn fast or he would have had to starve (he finds most of British foods
quite bland) as do most of my asian friends.

You may do this has a hobby but you are truly an amazing woman. I cannot thank you
enough. I receive great reviews on my cooking when we have friends and family round
for dinner and I couldn’t have done it without you. HUGE thanks, and hugs…and congratulations
once again on the new addition to your family. xxxx

  7. Congratulations! It is so refreshing to see a Grandma fully embracing being with her grandchildren, especially when mom is still postpartum and needs much care! You are so right on when it comes to new moms needing to pay close attention to their diet postpartum….those babies use up alot of momma’s EFA’s and minerals! Lots of cooked greens and good quality butter and olive oil, plus sesame oil massage will go a long way to restoring baby’s mama! Lucky she has you to cook for her!

I actually came here to say thank-you but got sidetracked by the baby news and nutrition comment! I love you site and watching you cook inspires me when I just don’t feel like it!

  8. nice to hear.. my mother in law made me work on the 6th day after i gave birth to my daughter.. via c-section.. she made me cook the meal so i can eat.. u r nice and very carring… god bless you annty… this does bring tears on my eyes…

  9. Congratulations to you and best wishes for the new addition in your family! As a young person, I know that things like premade foods and snacks (junk food, basically) too often get choosen over recipes that have stood the test of time. We all need to remember that sometimes we should just listen to our mother’s wisdom.
Also, I’m a vegan and really am thankful that you have so many wonderful vegan recipes. It makes me feel good to be able make delicious food while being animal-friendly. My husband loves your recipes, too.Thank you!

  10. Hello Aunty,
Congratulations!!!!!!!!!! Your daughter in law is really blessed to be under your loving care. Hope she enjoys the delicious healthy food you have been making. What a lucky family.
