Pedas are an all time favorite sweet. Pedas are like soft milk fudge. Pedas are grainy texture made with milk and sugar, flavored with cardamom. Peda can be served as a candy or as a dessert.

Recipe makes 24.

Peda (Indian Sweet)Ingredients:

  • 3/4  cup paneer
  • 3/4 cup milk powder
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/2  cup sugar
  • 3  tablespoon unsalted butter (ghee)
  • 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder (ilatchi)

For Garnish:

  • 1 tablespoon sliced pistachios

Method:

  1. Check the recipe for paneer and make the paneer with whole milk. For this recipe use 4 cups of milk.
  2. Heat the frying pan on medium. Add butter and let it melt.
  3. Next add milk, milk powder, and paneer. Mix it well.
  4. Cook mixture on medium heat stirring continuously until mixture starts leaving the sides of the frying pan and becomes like dough. This should take about 12 minutes. Now this is known as khoya.
  5. Transfer the khoya into a bowl and let it cool off until khoya becomes just lukewarm.
  6. Mix the sugar and cardamom powder into the khoya and knead it for about a minute until every thing blends together and become soft dough. Note: if you mix the sugar while khoya is hot that will make pedas soft.
  7. Divide the mix into about 20 equal parts and roll them into round balls. Lightly press it down so it looks like small patty.
  8. Put few pieces of sliced pistachios on every peda.
  9. Pedas should be served at room temperature.
  10. Pedas can be kept for few days at room temperature and about a month refrigerated.

    hi aunty
i tried this receipe and it was really too good.i prepared some pedas in sugar free so my father in law also enjoy it and it taste with sugar free is also too good.everybody like it.but aunty it get spoil after 2 days why it so happen?should i have to put it in refrigerater?

    • Manjula Jain says:

      Hi Mahi,
Peda should not be spoiled for few days at room temperature unless it is very hot. I think you did not cook the paneer mix long enough and that can make the peda spoiled faster.

      • mahi says:

i cook the paneer for long but i put the pedas in air tight container at room temprature does it spoil because of this?

        • Jaya says:

You must allow them to cool down fully before putting them in a container. If they are still warm when you seal the container then that will allow bacteria to start growing.

I always keep milk based sweets in the fridge as an added precaution.

Can milk powder be substituted with milk?. If so then how much milk has to be added. If not what milk powder has to be used?. My father-in-law likes this sweet. I would like to do it for him. Please let me know.
