PEDA (Indian Sweet)
January 24th, 2009 filed under DessertsPedas are an all time favorite sweet. Pedas are like soft milk fudge. Pedas are grainy texture made with milk and sugar, flavored with cardamom. Peda can be served as a candy or as a dessert.
Recipe makes 24.
- 4 cup paneer
- 1/3 cup milk powder
- 1/3 cup milk
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 3 tablespoon unsalted butter (ghee)
- 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder (ilatchi)
For Garnish:
- 1 tablespoon sliced pistachios
Method:
- Check the recipe for paneer and make the paneer with whole milk. For this recipe use 4 cups of milk.
- Heat the frying pan on medium. Add butter and let it melt.
- Next add milk, milk powder, and paneer. Mix it well.
- Cook mixture on medium heat stirring continuously until mixture starts leaving the sides of the frying pan and becomes like dough. This should take about 12 minutes. Now this is known as khoya.
- Transfer the khoya into a bowl and let it cool off until khoya becomes just lukewarm.
- Mix the sugar and cardamom powder into the khoya and knead it for about a minute until every thing blends together and become soft dough. Note: if you mix the sugar while khoya is hot that will make pedas soft.
- Divide the mix into about 20 equal parts and roll them into round balls. Lightly press it down so it looks like small patty.
- Put few pieces of sliced pistachios on every peda.
- Pedas should be served at room temperature.
- Pedas can be kept for few days at room temperature and about a month refrigerated.

hi manjula, is it possible for you to convert your receipes for peda in grams instaed of cups as i get confusions.

Thank you so much for ur reply on Gulabjamun recipie
I’m sure going to try it….but along with it, I also wanted to make Kesar Peda.
If i follow the same recipie as yours, when do I add saffron??
and how much? do i mix it with milk?
Thank you very very much for recipies…I’m 17 and before this I never cooked…My mom always used to force me into cooking but I always thought it was boring
but when I came across your website, I saw the recipie and just to pass time, tried making rasgulla….the came out really nice and then my confidence increased!
In last 2 or 3 only weeks I’ve tried so many recipies of yours and all turned out really really very well…not a single recipe that turned out bad
My parents couldn’t believe that I actually made it! but now when i see my mom, proudly telling her friends and relatives about how nice i cook, i really feel special
and the whole credit goes to you
Thank you so so sooo much for the website and videos.
Hi Dhrashti,
Thank you for such a nice compliment, you made my day. I am also very proud of you. Take about 10 strands of saffron and soak the in 1 tablespoon of warm milk for few minutes and add to peda the same time you will be adding the sugar.
Hello Aunty,
I want to know if adding sugar when u are making the dough is ok ? or do we have to add it later ?
iam thinking that adding later might leave granules of sugar in the dough and it might not taste pleasant …
Hi Urvashi,
You should be using fine granulated sugar.
Hello Aunty, I am good at cooking and making various dishes, still i like to watch your show and all the receipies
… I am telling you are doing really a great job who are beginners in cooking and also for NRI vegitarians … Thanks for being helpdul to all…
I have made peda from khoya but never from milk-paneer… In this receipe you have used milk powder… in market two types of milk powder available i.e. mava-milk powder and one simple milk powder(which is used to make tea as well)… So it would be appreciate if you can tell which milk powder you have used… I have both present in my kitchen
Thanks,
-Tina
Hello Aunty,
The Pedas turned out great but I used much less sugar than you mentioned. I was wondering if there is some error in the quantity you mention? Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful recipes with us. While you make it so easy for us, I can only imagine how much you must have experimented to come up with these perfect recipes. Thank you for all your hard work!
I have tried lots of your recipes. Your instructions and videos are so good that the dishes turn out excellent on the first attempt itself. I couldn’t make any desserts before and now I know so many!!!
