Pedas are an all time favorite sweet. Pedas are like soft milk fudge. Pedas are grainy texture made with milk and sugar, flavored with cardamom. Peda can be served as a candy or as a dessert.

Recipe makes 24.

Peda (Indian Sweet)Ingredients:

  • 4  cup paneer
  • 1/3 cup milk powder
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1/2  cup sugar
  • 3  tablespoon unsalted butter (ghee)
  • 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder (ilatchi)

For Garnish:

  • 1 tablespoon sliced pistachios

Method:

  1. Check the recipe for paneer and make the paneer with whole milk. For this recipe use 4 cups of milk.
  2. Heat the frying pan on medium. Add butter and let it melt.
  3. Next add milk, milk powder, and paneer. Mix it well.
  4. Cook mixture on medium heat stirring continuously until mixture starts leaving the sides of the frying pan and becomes like dough. This should take about 12 minutes. Now this is known as khoya.
  5. Transfer the khoya into a bowl and let it cool off until khoya becomes just lukewarm.
  6. Mix the sugar and cardamom powder into the khoya and knead it for about a minute until every thing blends together and become soft dough. Note: if you mix the sugar while khoya is hot that will make pedas soft.
  7. Divide the mix into about 20 equal parts and roll them into round balls. Lightly press it down so it looks like small patty.
  8. Put few pieces of sliced pistachios on every peda.
  9. Pedas should be served at room temperature.
  10. Pedas can be kept for few days at room temperature and about a month refrigerated.

    Dear Majula Aunty,

I tried making pedas, everything went well until after i mixed milk and milk powder with paneer in ghee. I put 3 tablespoons of ghee, even after 15 mins my consistency was not like what i saw in your video. i could see a lot of ghee and spooned some out. I was even unable to make peda shapes and so i had to flatten it out in a plate and cut it up like barfi. i used the exact measurements you mentioned but somehow my end product did not look the same as in your video. what do you think went wrong?

Hello Manjula Aunty, I try many of ur recipes and they come out great. But the pedas did not come out very good. I used the same proportion given by you, but even with the khova, it was bringing out lot of butter(ghee) and it did not come out dry like yours. What do you think is my mistake……pls reply. But the taste was awesome…

      Dee,
If the mix of paneer, milk and milk powder became too dry you will not be able to make peda it will little crumbly, remember as the khoya will cool it will be little dry it is making more on khoya if it becomes dry you can sprinkle few drops of warm milk.
