How to store cilantro (green coriander) for 10 to 12 days?
November 3rd, 2008 filed under News and UpdatesAfter much experimentation, I find its better not to wash cilantro until you are ready to use it. Before refrigerating, chop off the heavy steams and remove the leaves that are going bad. Pat dry the cilantro. Wrap the cilantro in the paper towel and store it in a paper bag. I like using brown paper lunch bags.
I have been able to store cilantro for almost 10 to 12 days.
hi manjula please tell me the recipe of meethi red chutney.this is my request again.thanks
Hello Jamshade, check tamarind chutney.
Try sticking cilantro (cut stem side down, of course) in a vase/glass of water and place in refrigerator.
This is for Priti and all. Thanks for giving a good tip. I have tried what you said and it remains fresh for a long period. Thanks Priti Once again.
Namaste Aunty ji,
I am a regular viewer of you site and I especially like the Moong Dal Dosa , paneer recipes and the Fusion recipe. I have a question, why is salt added in last in yougurt gravy? Another question i have is, in Paneer recipes and rajma, chhole etc can we add yogurt for consistency and thickening? Actually I am looking for yogurt gravy recipes instead of cream gravy ones.
Regards
Archana
THANX…TO ME IT KINDA HAS A PINE SMELL BUT VERY STRONG….IDK..IS THAT WHAT IT SMELLS LIKE TO YOU?
You need to take small glass or plastic bottle and add little water into it and put cilantro in that bottle. Put bottle in refrigerator and cilatro will remain perfect for about two week.
Cardomom should have a pleasant, nice, fragrant smell. It doens’t smell like anything else I can think of, but it should be pleasantly strong within a few inches of your nose. If you can’t really smell anything, it’s old and should be thrown out.
AUNTIE I KNOW THIS IS NOT THE RIGHT PAGE TO ASK THIS QUESTION,BUT I WANTED TO KNOW WHAT KIND OF SMELL IS GROUND CARDAMOM IS SUPPOSE TO HAVE..I PURCHASED SOME AND I DONT KNOW WHAT SMELL ITS SUPPOSE TO HAVE..THANK YOU SO MUCH AUNTIE
I too have had ups and downs with cilantro. What I do is soak it in water for about an hour – this washes it and hydrates the leaves. Then I put it in a colander and let it dry completely. Then I put it in a plastic bag. I usually get about a week out of it. I’ve also heard that wrapping the cilantro in a paper towel also works well – probably much like your paper bag!
Make sure the cilantro is dry (no moisture). Put it in a plastic bag. Hold the two ends of the top of the bag with both hands and twist the bag around so that it will fill with air (it will inflate like a balloon) and then put a knot in the bag. This way it will keep fresh for days, although cilantro does not last too much in my fridge, as I use it in everything!!! I love it!
